Bear for web, Android, & Windows
Return to support library
As of this writing, we do not have plans for Android or Windows. Shiny Frog is a small team by design, and we prefer to focus on projects we believe we can reasonably tackle and do well.
But!
Bear Web is here to help.
Whether you’re borrowing a friend’s laptop or sneaking in a few edits from your office PC, Bear Web lets you access your notes from any web browser.
About Bear Web
Bear Web is a web app designed to complement the native Bear apps on Mac, iPhone and iPad, providing you with the flexibility to access your notes from any web browser. It is primarily for situations where you cannot access the native Bear apps and need to browse, edit, or search your Bear notes. It is not intended to be used as a standalone note-taking solution.
Bear Web Public Beta
Bear Web is now in public beta. Some key features, like TagCons and encryption, are still in the works. We’re actively building them, and your feedback helps.
A Bear Pro subscription is not required to access the Bear Web public beta. However, it is required to sync your notes with the native Bear apps, and will be required to access Bear Web once it’s out of beta.
You can learn more about Bear Web public beta here.
A few things to know
- Bear Web syncs your notes via Apple’s iCloud, just like the native apps
- Your notes stay private on the web and are never saved in your web browser either. Neither we nor anyone else can see them
- Bear Web won’t work if Apple’s Advanced Data Protection (ADP) is turned on due to Apple’s restrictions
- Bear’s keyboard shortcuts vary slightly between the native macOS version and the web version. You can check the full shortcut list here
Limitations
Yes, unfortunately all technology has limitations. We are trying our best to minimize the difference between Bear Web and native versions. However, due to the limitations of the web apps and the exclusiveness of AppleOS functions, Bear Web will have some limitations compared to the full-featured native apps. Any OS exclusive features such as semantic search or touchpad gestures will not be working the same for Bear Web version. We’re keeping a close eye on all of this and plan to improve Bear Web over time.
